Monsieur Martin’s goats

Presentation

This milking herd of forty alpine goats is located in a small hamlet outside the village of Montchamp (Calvados) At la Saffrie, a few houses, facing due south, nestle at the bottom of a small valley well known for the heather that grows there. It is easy to find the goat farm, it is located in the centre of the hamlet.

A farmer’s son and a teacher in an agricultural college I wanted to “go back to the land”.In 1986, I decided to start breeding goats in this region where the cow reigns supreme. In 1990 the small family business decided to diversify into tourism. Since 1994 it has been a member of the network “bienvenue à la ferme”. It is also approved by the French ministry of education. This and its amenities mean that it is a facility which is recognised by the public and by the schools. The farmhouse cheeses marketed under the name of Saffrin are sold within a radius of 50 km, making this a truly local business.
